Halcyon and the Calming Sea
by Cassandra Soldo
Oh dear Halcyon
All alone across the sea
The tides calm for thee
Oh sweet Halcyon
Floating on a nest for one
Company of none
Oh my Halcyon
Do you ever want a friend
Bring quiet to an end
Little Halcyon
Is that why you calm the waves?
To satisfy your craves?
You wish for one to set sail
Follow along your trail
That one would go far enough
Beyond horizon’s cuff
In order to reach your nest
Stay with you to rest
So you would not feel lonely
Conversation only
Alas Halcyon
No brave souls venture your path
None to share a laugh
Oh dear Halcyon
Your husband’s death used amerce
A widow’s cruel curse
Oh sweet Halcyon
And so you remain alone
Your struggle unknown
Oh dear Halcyon
All alone across the sea
The tides calm for thee
Oh sweet Halcyon
Floating on a nest for one
Company of none
Oh my Halcyon
Do you ever want a friend
Bring quiet to an end
Little Halcyon
Is that why you calm the waves?
To satisfy your craves?
You wish for one to set sail
Follow along your trail
That one would go far enough
Beyond horizon’s cuff
In order to reach your nest
Stay with you to rest
So you would not feel lonely
Conversation only
Alas Halcyon
No brave souls venture your path
None to share a laugh
Oh dear Halcyon
Your husband’s death used amerce
A widow’s cruel curse
Oh sweet Halcyon
And so you remain alone
Your struggle unknown
